4690k would be better for just gaming, and a Xeon would be better for multitasking (like streaming)

The Xeon and 4690k are near identical in terms of performance. The 4690k is better in terms of single thread performance due to the ability to overclock. Where as the Xeon should perform slightly better in stuff that is greatly optimized for hyperthreading.

The conclusion? Xeon if you aren't going to overclock. 4690k if you will be.

Wat? Xeon is identical in performance with 4770 because its pretty much an i7 without iGPU

Intel has many processors for different things. You will be better off using an Intel core i5, since it will not make any tangible bottle necking and is better optimized for gaming, than the other uses of the Xeon, which is optimized for things like servers and workstations. I hope this was helpful to you!

Definitely i5. Its designed for gaming while the is not designed for gaming.

There's no such thing as "designed for gaming". The 4690k is just better for purely gaming as it can be overclocked and most games use <4 cores anyway. But if he's also intending to stream then the extra threads from the Xeon become very useful.

op: in your case the xeon is probably the best choice unles s you plan using quicksync to stream (that use the igp, xeons doesnt have igp) but quicksync streaminh quality is trash..

Definitely go with the Xeon -- especially if your GAMING + STREAMING + RECORDING + SKYPING all at the same time.

I don't know why people are saying go with the i5-4690K for your usage type...

Bunch of users misreading the post.

Short answer: Xeon E3-1230 V3 > 4690k

Long answer: Go with 4690k if you are into overclocking or want a CPU for gaming (probably cheaper as well).

Go with Xeon E3-1230 V3 if you aren't into the above. It is basically an i7 4770k without overclocking
