I am planning on a build that I have gathered most of the things. I am about to buy the system but I need to first now how to address my operating system storage issue. My motherboard only have 8 sata ports and I plan on using all for WD 1 TB to form a RAID 1, with 4TB of usable storage.

The question I am trying to ask is whether I should go with a PCI SSD or some m.2/pci-e to pci adapter and if so, what/which. BUDGET IS LIMITED!!!!!!!

Or I can use a SSD on a sata port and then buy a raid card. I don't know which one to go for. least amount of spending If possible.

I would personally say M.2, since you won't have any extra SATA ports, and they are somewhat inexpensive.

I'd think about getting fewer drives, but with a higher capacity if i were you.

Say, 4x2TB drives maybe. Would be cheaper and more reliable, fewer points of failure

Also, a RAID card would probably be what you're wanting here, the on-board abilities of motherboards usually aren't that brilliant

Desktop: i5 2500k @ 4.8GHz stable, 16GB Corsair XMS3, Asus P8P67, Corsair H50 AIO Liquid cooler (worst decision in the build), Corsair GS600, Intel 520 180GB, and to top it all off... An nvidia gt630!

Laptop: Dell Vostro 3360, i7 3517U, 8GB, 120GB Samsung 840 Evo, Intel 7260 Dual band AC, Dell 4G wireless modem

Workstation(in the making): Two Xeon X5650 processors (24 threads!), Supermicro X8DTE-F,56 GB ECC ram (more to come, a lot more), very old 'industrial computer' case, supermicro heatsinks (amazingly silent) and as for the rest, i've not bought it yet!
