M40x + ModMic + Headphone Amp.

So I'm totally new to the audio world, and I want a new headset. I've basically decided to get a pair of M40x's (though feel try to convince me otherwise) with a Modmic. I've heard the ModMic is terrible without a soundcard, and that motherboard soundcards don't cut it. I've specifically heard http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Channel-External-Sound-Adapter/dp/B0027EMHM6/ref=zg_bs_3015427011_6 working well, but it has a terrible headphone input. Anyway, there's a bundle for a Headphone amp with the M40Xs http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T58SB18/ref=amb_link_429792262_3?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=0E0VHZ4RV2840SR9KFQE&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=2034938262&pf_rd_i=B00HVLUR54. So for my actual question: What does this do? Does it have a mic input? Will it supress the background static from the ModMic?

If you already have a decent motherboard, you won't need additional soundcard or whatsoever and M40X doesnt benefit at all from amping

I concur. I don't know about a soundcard for the mic, I would try it by itself first.

Fine.

Rule 1: You're not an audiophile until you have Audeze LCD-2 Fazor with silver dragon audio cable + $1600 benchmark amp 1 + $1800 schiit yggdrasil + $400 audioquest digital cable + all your music files need to be FLAC 32 / 384

Rule 2: Physics doesn't determine how something will sound to our ears.

Rule 3: More money is always better

Rule 4: If you think the more expensive things dont sound better, look at rule 3

Rule 3: Vaccination causes autism

Rule 4: Climate change is fake and not caused by human activities

I hope you're proud of me now @SSL

I have that exact combo(M40X and ModMic), at least in my case I have no sound card(external) or amp whatsoever. I ordered 2 of those usb thingy just in case and meh, the ModMic sounds better with my mobo sound card. I just use "Acoustic Echo Cancelation" mode in the Realtek HD Manager plus 10db. My AT2020 picks up more background noises than the ModMic, just in case my specs are in my signature.

By the way... I love my ModMic. :)

●CPU: i7-4790K w/H100i ●Mobo: MSI Z97 MPower ●RAM: Corsair 16GB Dominator ●GPU: EVGA ACX SC 780 3GB(X2) ●SSD: 850 Pro 256GB ●Case: 450D ●PSU: AX 860i ●Monitor: Asus PB278Q 1440p

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea what the other product does? I was mostly looking at it because it seemed to condense both cables into one usb.

I hear you're pretty famous around here. So let me ask you directly, does the sound blaster thing condense both cables into one? because it might be worth 7 dollars just for that.

lol am I? Oh boy.

To answer your question, it does appear to have a microphone input, so you could connect both your headphones and modmic.
