Hello people of LTT Forums!

So, I've been wondering, is there anything useful that a programmer like me could make? I've already tried game development and it goes along very sluggishly for one person development, since none of my friends code(sadly). So, any ideas?

Thanks,

chargerjake

P.S. Not just for me but for lots of people, maybe my friends, etc.?

Make a program that does stuff on your pc (like siri) when you enter commands or voice if you can do that

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

Try getting into hacking. Its a great way to refine your programming and CS skills as well as do some pretty cool/ludicrous stuff. Just do it responsibly so that you don't effect or harm anyone.

CPU: Intel i7 - 5820k @ 4.5GHz, Cooler: Corsair H80i, Motherboard: MSI X99S Gaming 7, RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 2666MHz CL16,

GPU: ASUS GTX 980 Strix, Case: Corsair 900D, PSU: Corsair AX860i 860W, Keyboard: Logitech G19, Mouse: Corsair M95, Storage: Intel 730 Series 480GB SSD, WD 1.5TB Black

You can also get into tool making. Just like the 90's, I considered making my own Wolfenstein 3D mapping tools. Of course, that was already done so I just do things that seem interesting to me. You can deconstruct WADs and try to make an interpreter and modify some DOOM scripts.

Getting into hacking as trag1c stated is also very nice. I'm quite into it. Not very good at it, but my focus is more on hardware than software currently.

Personally, I'm using a Raspberry Pi and Arduino Uno for making my own tools of sorts. Like, using my Pi for calculations and UI and the Arduino to control servos and constantly check analog signals for other inputs. Some parts are hardware, but everything is programmed.

Also, I'm also in game development, but it only feels sluggish if you're not seeing any results. It's easy to get disheartened if the majority of the work that you're doing is reading someone else's stuff. Best of luck to ya.

I like making little automation tools that make life easier. For example, I run a Minecraft server for my friends and I so I have a script that downloads the versions.json file Mojangs publishes, parses out the latest version, compares it against the version that's running and if it's newer, it downloads it.
