I have an OLD (ish) windows xp laptop that I have no use for. No one I know could use it. 

 

And as I was about to just drop it off at a thrift shop I had a thought.

 

Would it be possible to take it completely apart and use the screen?

 

I know it won't be easy but I must try (will post steps later.)

no because usually the LCD driver circuit is integrated into the motherboard, which means you can only use the screen with a direct signal from that motherboard, which means you need the rest of the laptop attached for it to work

you can buy driver boards for it separately, i have seen it done.

Yes, you could get a controller board for it, thats what I intend on doing once I have the money with my ASUS K53TA's panel as the laptop fucked itself over.

if it is edp (embeded desplay port) it can be adapted to desplay port not too hard if you can find the pinout
