500w enough?

Is a 500w psu enough juice to power the r9 280x when the estimated wattage is 433w? or do I need to bump up to a 600w psu?

600w since you'll need more for the CPU and motherboard.

 

EDIT: Wait, 400 watts for a video card sounds wrong, looking up benchmarks..

 

EDIT 2: The 500w PSU will be fine. the 280x pulls a little over 300 watts on full load, so you should have enough for the CPU and other components.

unless he's running a 5ghz 5960X and multi HDDs he is fine with 500w.

the estimated 433w already include cpu.

i'm running a overclocked i5-4670k and gtx 770 off a 500w and its good to go and draws about 400max

card manufacturers say 400w because they assume that someone out there has a crappy OEM PSU, so if you have a very crap psu you will need more wattage for it to be stable
