Just got my 980, took some 4k DSR pictures at 1080p. OMG!

Yep, my r9 270 hits the 2gb limit but the GPU and CPU aren't maxing out, now trying to decide between a r9 290 4gb, R9 290x 8gb or a GTX 970

um, have you heard about the slow 512MB of ram on the 970? If SC is using some of it, that may cause issues.

I experience next to no stuttering if it goes above it.

But if its only using 0.1 - 0.2 of the affected memory out of the 3.6gbs that's a 1/18 chance of it accessing it

Plus you get frame spikes depending on your system specs from the game being unoptimised atm

The title of this post says you were running at 4k DSR to 1080p which means you were running at 4k and downscaling. 4k will use that much vram but 1080p won't get anywhere close at the same settings.

PC gaming is superior to console gaming, but the gamers themselves are neither superior or inferior to one another: they're just people with varying degrees of understanding.

I was thinking the same when I saw it. Which is it, 4K or 1080p? Because I have seen people play @ 1080p on a 970 and it wasn't bad at all.

Its 4k downscaled to 1080p, a 970 runs star citizen fine.
