"This drive can work faster" question/solution?

I just bought myself a WD My Passport 500gb drive, when i connect it to a usb 3 port (checked in the bios, 100% usb3 port) it says that the drive can work faster if i connect it to a usb3 port which it is, says it no matter which of the usb3 ports i use, tried transfering a 4gb file from my main drive to the passport drive, got around 100-110 mb/s which seems alright compared to the reviews i have seen, im just still puzzled why it keeps saying it can work faster, just a bug?

I have a MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming mortheboard is that helps anything.

If it does as fast as it should do, so no problem.

Give up, this is just a windows os.

I am running windows 7, still just wanted to make sure, bit annoying getting a pop up everytime i connect the drive, kinda makes me unsure if it actually is performing correctly :)

Hey Hemanse,

Do you have all your latest OS updates and all the latest drivers? This can sometimes happen if a driver is outdated. The speeds that you are looking at should be good for a USB3.0 external HDD. :) If you think the drive is underperforming, try benchmarking it and run a diagnostic tool to see if it's fully healthy. I would suggest WD DAta Lifeguard Diagnostic tool (http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810〈=en).

If you really reach those transfer speeds, you're definitely running on USB 3.0, not 2.0, don't worry (2.0 would max out at about half that). That message... just some bug. Ignore it, annoying as it may be.

Yeah it seems like its working fine, just as a test i transfered a few files from the front usb 2.0 hub on my case, got around 45-50 mb/s, plugged it in a 3.0 port and it transfers at 100-110.
