Depends on the fans. If they seal well already (most square frame fans do), then it may not make any difference. If they don't seal well (*coughs* round frame fans *coughs*) it may help a degree or two, but nothing that's considerably outside the margin of error.

 

Basically, don't bother.

Not really. There is barely any space for air to come out. It might help more if you have non-square fans that have big gaps in the corners...

I'd prefer to get some thin rubber pieces to put between the rad and the fans, that way it both reduces vibration and forms a seal.

Plenty of stores sell rubber gaskets that you can install between your fans and radiator. A much more elegant solution in my opinion :)

If they leak a lot of air ya. I use Noctuas on all my rads, pretty sure they are build to avoid that from happening.
