Gta 4 in VM

I am using windows 10 and I was wondering if It would be possible to run gta 4 in a vm without a huge performance hit. I would want to do this because It is Hard as frozen balls to run gta in windows 8/10.

maybe on your build, will probably run pretty bad

It runs 50Fps When was on windows 7 so my hardware isnt a problem,

On my rig windows 10 was having issues in a VM, hell, it still has issues when used as its own OS.. (I have a feeling my mobo doesn't like it, might be UEFI or something causing it, but overall my rig is pretty damn powerful.)

in a vm you probably wouldn't be able to run gta3 at a good fps, let alone gta4

Do vms Limit the gpu, I know you set the number of cores and the amount of vram for the gpu but idk if it is limited otherwise

When is Windows 10 officially released? Also I had no problem on Win7, just downloaded through steam and GTX760 runs 60+ with icenhancer

Do vms Limit the gpu, I know you set the number of cores and the amount of vram for the gpu but idk if it is limited otherwise 

 

yea, pretty much any application running on direct x and requiring any decent amount of GPU horsepower will not run acceptable, if at all.

My understanding is that AMD gpu's are better suited for virtualization, but I'm no expert.

When in doubt, re-format.

The only way this is possible is using PCI pass-through. There is a really good thread about it, using linux (tested with mint and fedora) as a host os and xen as a hypervisor.

 

Of course there is a few caveats: You need at least 2 GPU's, a fair amount of ram, VT-d support for intel, AMD-Vi for AMD and some GPUs just flat out refuse to work through pass-through.
