hey guys here is my current pc:

  • CPU: Intel i5-3470 @ 3.2 GHz
  • Mobo: Asus P8B75-V
  • Memory: Corsair XMS 1x8GB
  • HDD: WD blue
  • SDD: Kingston 120GB
  • GPU: Asus Radeon HD 7950 3GB
  • PSU: Random 500w

and I was thinking on getting 2x R9 290 in Crossfire and a better psu (corsair CXM 750w).

So here's my question, would the rest of the pc botleneck the 290's? and also should I wait for the lunch of the 3xx?

btw I would later upgrade the mobo cause my HDD is connected to 2Gbs sata :(

3xx series will be very expensive since it will be their top of the line gpu

I suggest you getting a single 970 or even if your can afford a 980 and you will be fine, since you will not have so much heat in your pc ( 290 in cfx)

you could go for a GTX 970/980, and if you plan on SLI in the future, I'd get the EVGA 750W G2 PSU.

"Sulit" (adj.) something that is worth it

970 and 980 are better choices here because they dissipate far less heat.

thanks for the replies, I thought the 980 was way more expensive where I live. So I will get the 980 but in that case I wont need a PSU that strong right? what PSU would you recommend?

@Zupeeh

More important of a question is... are you doing 1080p, 1440p, 4K?

Because a single 290x or 970 will be more than enough for 1080p in 99% of games out today.

The projects never end in my line of work.

I playing at 1080p, but I would still like it to be future proof :/ so maybe the 980 would be a better choice?

2x R9 290

and a 750w PSU will be all the future-proofing you need for a lot less.

$800 but you'll have much more GPU horsepower than a single 980.

@Zupeeh

Edit: Also, the i5 Should be fine for 2 way crossfire. More than that and you'll lose out on PCI lanes, but for 2 it'll be fine.

So you think I should go for the 2x R9 290?

I'm so confused on what should I do, cause if I go for the 980 I can buy a new mobo aswell

My suggestion.

Get evga g2 850 watts (for extreme overclocking and heck 10 flipping years of warranty)

get a SINGLE r9 290x

When games are not able to run at max settings, get a 2nd r9 290x for xfire or even better get the future cards

Xfiring still has certain issues with games nowadays and you should mostly stick to 1 card solutions

The BBQ: i7-4770 / 212x / Tri-X R9 290x 1075/1400 / MSI H87-G43 GAMING / EVGA G2 850W / Corsair Spec 03 / Samsung 840 EVO 250gb SSD / Toshiba 2TB HDD / 8gb Kingston DDR3 1600mhz

Peripherals: G710+ / G502 / Bose Companion 2 Series III / Audio Technica ATH-M40x / Sound Magic E50

Monitors: Dell U2414H

@Zupeeh

In the end, it comes down to you. When I did piece by piece upgrades, I did half every year if it needed it. i.e.... GPU one year, Mobo / CPU the next. Now I just do a full system upgrade every year, but.

I'd buy the 2x R9 290s and PSU now, and then upgrade CPU/Mobo/Ram when you can afford to.
