Which CPU

Go to solution Solved by SteveGrabowski,

I can get an new processor. Should I stick with the Athlon 760k (O.C to 4.4) or get the Pentium G3258 and O.C. it? I don't know what the upgrade path is for FM2+, but LGA 1150 has the best upgradeability. I will get an i5 in the future. (Around August). Is the Pentium good for games like CS:GO, TF2, Just Cause 2, Tomb Raider, and The Forest? I know it won't run AW. Would getting an i3 be a better choice?

Keep your 760k and then upgrade to a Skylake i5 + board in August. I didn't have a good experience playing Tomb Raider on my 4.4 GHz G3258. It stuttered a lot for me and seems like it needs three cores to run well from playing with RivaTuner Stats Server on. Runs perfectly on my quadcore Xeon now.

get something on lag 1150 if you can upgrade soon.  Upgrade path for FM2+ currently ends around the performance level of the i5 4690k..   G3258 might bottleneck in tomb raider, but you should be good otherwise until august.

Want a good game to play?  Check out Shadowrun: http://store.steampowered.com/app/300550/ (runs on literally any hardware)

Umm... I'd just wait until you actually have the money to get an actual good CPU. The performance gain will be minimal if any.

Planning on trying StarCitizen (Highly recommended)? STAR-NR5P-CJFR is my referal link

if your gaming i3 at the bare minimum. great future upgrade options on 1150

new titles need 4 threads to even load up

I'll ask my dad if he can spare me some change. 4 threads? Would an i5 be good? would this i5 and mobo be good? ASRock H81M-HDS LGA 1150 mATX Intel Motherboard and Intel Core i5-4590 3.7GHz LGA 1150 Boxed Processor?

i5 is currently one of the best choices a gamer can make for a great experience.

that is a very nice cpu if you never plan on overclocking.

I would suggest a H97 board at very least

Not all H81 boards will support haswell refresh chips without a bios update or if microcenter will do a bios update free of charge that board will be fine.

Not sure if H81 would be ideal for 4590, correct me anyone if I'm saying something stupid

I can flash a new BIOS version... I already have a PC.

if you have a non refresh haswell chip your good to go for a flash

^this is the best advice (well if you don't have a easy way to get rid of cpu)

i3?

for intel anything more than 3Ghz on four core is usually considered pretty decent I would recommend the i5-4460 or if you have a little more money the i5-4690k (which is like just a sweet cpu and can be overclocked if needed to)

Just a side note, I've seen this repeated lately about the 4 threads, specifically with BF4. Just letting you all know, my OLD machine (nephew has it) is a dual core first generation i3 with an HD 7770, 4GB ram and he plays BF3/4 on it just fine. (low settings 1080p = 43FPS) Bought that chip & mobo in 2010.
