Personally would get a 4790k and drop the AMD

Amd cpu for low budget, intel cpu otherwise. i5 4690k if gaming primarily, i7 4790k if for also professional or streamung. Xeons, or more than 4 cores are not needed.

Mobo is simple and most value z97s, willwith sli/crossfire, will be able to manage just as good as highet end. Z97a or gigabyte z97 sli is fine.

Ram at 1600 or 1866 is fine any higher is not really worth it for gaming, due to cas latency being higher, plus it just doesn't really affect you in this case.

For 4k, dual gpus are required, so sli 970s or 980s, or 290s in amd, your choice.

I heavily suggest getting a 125 or 250 gb ssd for boot. The performance speaks for itself.

Still new, but learning

@zappian your build is very good, for the OP I would go for a different case and an Evga 850G2 otherwise that build is excellent

Well you've certainly done an excellent job with that

@zappian for £600 would it better to get one of the GTX series for about £500-600? instead of 2 R9?

No , just no.

Less performance .

I'm unsure if 850 watts will be able to handle a 4790k and two 290s. That just seems a little tight. I would go for two 970s if it were my build, but since you're going for 4k, I would go for two 980s unless that's too expensive. And yes, SSDs are much worth it. Grab a cheap crucial mx100 or something for a boot drive at least. If you want to put games onto it, account for that when you choose a size.

Works fine tbh.

A lot of people run that.

not just looking cool but a ton of airflow since the cards used are 290x's and those produce a ton of heat

@zappian the circlejerker :P

I never like that word because it has many sexual implications and makes me uncomfortable.
