You would be better off with two 970s in SLI :) 70-80% more Performance compared to the 980

What about games where SLI is poorly optimized or doesn't work at all?

I would wait a bit, new AMD cards coming out soon. I would wait to see what they have to offer first.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Seeing how you have decent cards already I would hold out unless for what ever reason you can't.

Before my current 970 I had two 760s in SLI and all games worked flawlessly, havent encountered any issues :) but maybe that depends on a specific game - I played Diablo III, The Crew, Simcity5 etc, not so demanding games :)

I'd like to max out games like arkham knight with phsyx which puts AMD out of the running for me. I agree that perhaps I should wait just getting the itch. I will never do sli again one strong card is what id like.

I get the whole "I just can't quite max it out" itch a lot. But when it comes down to it at least for me I have hard time opening my wallet.

I would wait to see anyway, despite not wanting to go AMD. Chances are nothing will pop up but who knows. Its been awhile since I looked at benchmarks for cards but if I recall the 970 is close to the 980 for way less money and is the still the best option when it comes to SLI. But I'm not sure after the whole "3.5 of 4GB vram" issue. So assuming 1080p is your resolution a single 970 with a good factory OC or maybe you OC it yourself you could get pretty good performance, and even closer to a 980.

A huge boost from GTX 670 performance.  My last card was a 680 and my current card is a 780ti, depending on the game the jump is either 30-40% increase in performance. Made a huge difference with 1440p.  Battlefield 4 went from almost unplayable 35 fps on high - to a remarkable 50fps on ultra. At that was at its broken new born stage of life.

It depends, what's your CPU?

I play bf4 its pretty good with my 670. I do game at 1080p. Was a similar story with tge 670 and 680 performance/cost wise. I upgraded from a i5 2500k to a i7 4790k and a ASUS Z97 hero board last time I got the itch oye!

At 1080p the 680 would still be in my system today (maybe) a shiny new 970 may have been on its way :P And same story with my 780ti - an extra $200 over a 780 for maybe 10% ??? I said screw it need as much powa for 1440p as possible and went for it, completely regret that move....

I have the same itch with my CPU and GPU now, I kinda almost want to just sell my rig and start over but I would take too much of hit.

I'm currently using a GTX670 I'd like to upgrade for Arkham Knight,Shadows of Mordor and Witcher 3. With how long the 980's been out I wonder if I should wait for the next thing. Just looking for feedback. Have a nice day.

Wait to see what AMD has to offer and check their benchmarks.

I know people are raving about the 2x970 (and yes it's very good value, prize/performance compared to a single 980). However, I run a single 980 because I wanted the best single card performance I could get and here the 980 is no.1.

I plan buying a second 980 down the road and going for a 2-loop water cooling setup. This to me is the best solution ;)

Not happening with my next GPU.

Having one GPU just un-complicates things for sure.

Exactly. I curreently have have a 670 as well. It plays every game I'm currently interested in. I plan on holding out for another generation or two to make my next gpu purchase more worth it since I only game at 42 inch 1080p tv. I'd love to upgrade to higher resolution but once you're use to such a large screen its hard going down to a 27inch 1440p screen.

When AMD releases their next gen cards, the 980 should at least come down in price if you don't end up going with AMD.

That wouldn't be bad as well. When I get my next card I'll look to spend at least 500 dollars. I normally do the 1 year no interest dealio I have with my Newegg Preferred card so price needs to be at 500 or above.

I'm not big on the whole "wait and see whats next" approach as there will ALWAYS be something better on the horizon.

If you only plan on going 1080p I would stick with a 970. If you buy a 980 you would also need to budget a good 1440p monitor, the added horsepower at1080p would be a waste.

I know that AMD is coming up soon here and releasing new cards however i haven't seen anything indicating that they would release anything this year I read that it would be 2016

Even with a 970 I would want to have anything turned up to ultra/max and have AA/AF turned up all the way or as high as I could get it. While the 970 would suffice I want the cream of the crop.

I wasn't sure that all of the games were Nvidia games. I wouldn't mind AMD if they offered Physx its something I care about with regards to the Batman games. I know its pretty lame to buy a card for one feature but it matters to me I like having the games with the extra bells and whistles. Team red may get my love in the future who knows.

get a 980

I may we will see. i'm going to wait till Batman comes out perhaps nvidia will offer a coupon that supplies it with it.
