So I'm consolidating all my games as much as I can onto my PC by way of emulators.
So far I've got all my ps2, GBA and heaps of other games easily accessable on my HDD, but I'm a huge fan of the halo series, and, although you may be sick to death of hearing this being asked... is there an xbox 360 emulator yet?

I'm not one for Microsoft's abandonment of the PC community and profit maximization through exclusive titles on the xbox, and I'm just really wanting to throw out/sell off some appliances that I no longer have use for. (eg: xbox 360)

I've got dolphin emulator running all my wii games, albeit at varying levels of success - and would like to see the same happen with other consoles so I can sell off/gift my original copies to people with more appreciation for owning a physical copy.

There are no good x360 emulators that I know of.

There is no Xbox 360/PS3+ eumlator (yet)

If there was a working efficient Xbox 360 emulator I think Microsoft would go down hard on it.

All incorrect... there is an excellent emulator for both. They are sold by the companies too!

It's called a console :P

In all seriousness, however, there most likely will never be an emulator for X360/PS3 games, the way they are designed is much different than PCs. Therefor, running it would be horribly inefficient, if it runs at all.

The projects never end in my line of work.

Ah, you funny chap..

Anyways, I think down the road we will have an emulator of both...

Maybe the 360 before the PS3. The PS3 is made really weird.. (It had like an octa core and 512 MB RAM right?), but the 360 seems ... More normal.

Theoretically ANYTHING can be emulated if you throw enough power at it. Unfortunately there are no emulators that are sufficiently efficient to do that with current consumer hardware at the moment.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The 360 had a triple-core Cell processor.

The PS3 technically was a 7-core Cell processor.

Many people didn't know that one, but Cell design was difficult to work with, I've heard.

developing on PS3 and 360 was more difficult than on earlier consoles, from what I have heard.

Seems like it, the architecture is so weird and this probably caused some of the worse ports this last gen :P

Still, PC's are developing pretty quickly, I really wouldn't be surprised if a PS3 emulator was possible in a few years.

well, you said "never" B)

Ah I should say probably never. Because by the time we get to that point, it may not even be worthwhile.

The whole idea behind an emulator is that you're using software to "emulate" hardware you don't have because it is different than the PC. If it were "like" the PC, the game could probably just be ported. Surely the Game Boy/NES/SNES/Genesis, all easily emulated, are in no way like a modern PC.

Yes, it's always horribly inefficient, that's how software emulation works. Emulators always lag behind the hardware generations for this reason, but it's always just a matter of time.

And that is why I said there probably won't be one, by the time we have the horsepower to run it with playability, it'd be pointless to do, especially with the switch to digital content incoming.

However, if there is demand it may happen. All depends as time goes on.
