I would stick with the 6300 for a lower end build, it's very cheap and has good performance while offering good multi-tasking performance especially for the price, I have 4 friends that use that cpu and they're more than happy, 2 with gtx 660's and one with a gtx 670 so this really won't hold you back gaming wise and you're not putting it under heavy workloads or stress either, you really don't need to go Intel unil you start going higher end getting towards the $1000+ mark. I'm amazed I spotted that ram too, what a buy!

You definitely want the aftermarket cooler on there with the 6300 as amd's stock coolers are like a guy with asthma blowing through a McDonald's straw haha, for the extra few dollars it will keep it cool and quiet like you won't believe compared to the stock cooler!

As for OC'ing, it's pretty much a given that you'll be able to OC, I didn't check but it's likely, either way get the cooler, it's well worth it!

And graphics cards: red vs green is personal really, Nvidia are ahead but do cost more and now amd's prices have gone down so it's even really, amd put out more heat and use more power, I'd say a gtx 960 is better than an r9 280 but it's around the $200 mark, you'll be able to get a second hand one in your price range though so that would be a nice buy, if you want to buy new then stick with the 270 or 280 if you can.

If there's anything else I'll try and help:)

I like what you are saying, except the one thing.  The FX line CPUs are okay, just okay.

The overclocking part is misleading.  In order to overclock the FX bad boys, you need a hefty VRM on the motherboard.  The board he had WON'T be able to handle the necessary clean energy that the FX 6300 needs to OC very high at all.  If you really want good overclocks (20% or more), you need a capable 8+2 power phase to get the clean power out to the parts.

Yo, Op. Here's my build. It got expensive due to Windows. Anyway, as far as improvements go, add a 2nd 4gb stick once you get the money. And maybe an SSD. Have fun!

Oh wow hey i like that a lot lol!!! looks clean and matches everything. But im not going to lie i fell in love with the phantom series so i think id still go with that. Even if its just a tad pricier. Though the whole Windows thing i just found an old copy of 7pro if i dont go with linux or something like that.

@KeelyKRFC9 so more or less go RED for the cheaper cards at my price point lol.

wow okay then lol. idk if id do that just yet, the i5 i mean. I like the CPU (my laptop runs a similar CPU slightly older). But for now slightly outside what id be wanting to spend on this for now you know>?

Just out of cureocity do you have any ideas on the GPU i chose? or if i should go with the XFX R9 280? Or a green card?

Go Under $150 in your build, even under $130...

R9 280 > R9 270 > 750Ti  Whatever you can afford.  If you put extra money in, the i5 is your best upgrade.

Okay ill deffinatly make the i5 on my upgrade list for the future lol. Right now ui think it sits just outside of my price point........ for now.

The GPU i have in my build is half decent then?

When you OC your CPU, your motherboard has to be able to handle a higher load. And that mobo won't be able to it very well.

Anyway, about the build. I've made the changes, based on what you said. Got the phantom case, updated the RAM to 8gb, took windows out, and got an all black mobo, so we have a completely black build inside. Can you afford it / would you like to spend more on it?

Oh ok I hadn't looked that much into it, surely he should be able to get like 4ghz out of it even on a cheap mobo? Even if not I still think it's worth it

Keep it simple, you liked those parts because you chose them originally, stick with it, get the cheaper ram because it's an amazing deal, get the bigger cpu cooler and the graphics card is up to you to change or not, you teally don't need to change anything else right now

What do you mean?

Overclocking involves adding more electricity to the CPU.  The faster it runs, the more likely it is to say:  "Hey buddy!  If you want me at 4.5 GHz, you better give me more power."

The VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) takes the power from your power supply and changes it so a CPU can safely use that power.  The VRM is right beside the CPU socket.  It has three main parts to each "Phase":

The Capacitor (little cylinder)

The MOFSET (little black rectangle)

The Choke (bigger black Cube)

And easy way to count the phases is to find the chokes as they are biggest.

The more of these phases on a motherboard, the faster it can convert the energy from the power supply.  When your motherboard does not have enough phases, your overclock will fail and you will be unstable... blue screen... and maybe worse (blown motherboard, but they usually have safetys).

Oh, that. The phantom case has a usb 3.0 port that you must plug to the mobo in order to use it. Problem is, the mobo has no slot for usb 3.0. Now, the build will still work just fine, but you won't be able to use the front usb from the case. So partpicker points that out.

It sucks, but that's just how life is for people on a budget. Besides, you probably don't have any usb 3.0 devices anyway.

I do actually several x) i have 2 external SSD 2TB that utilities 3.0. Thats part of the reason i dont need a large onbord amount of storage in my computer. And why i didnt do a 1tb HHD or anything. I keep the majority of my files in that.

@Imakuni  Why not this one, it is cheaper: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/club-3d-video-card-cgaxr927614

Is it because of CLUB?  =D

Ive never herd of that brand before. any good? idk

I don't know if Club 3D is a good GPU brand. It might very well be, but I didn't pick it because of the following reasons:

  1. partpicker didn't state the core clock of it. That's a bit shady, if you ask me.
  2. It has only a single fan, whereas all other brands have 2. This leads me to think that the cooling isn't very good, and the card might have thermal problems or low OCing.
  3. I trust gigabyte. A lot.

Just saw this lol sorry man

And yah i do x) i know i could get by with something cheeper but i love the form factor of the case and the highlughts and everything about it. No idea why tho xD

Thats what i thought lol.

Idk i could go with the MSI or GigaByte. Both seem the same right? (PS dont kill me if their not lol xD)

Though the GigaByte does match the whole asthtic im going for better
