I shall upload pictures of what happens when I try to do it, give me 20 minutes.

Yeah would need to see exactly what it said, did you setup a partition on the RAID when you configured it?

So quick update time: the post arrived on Tuesday and with it came a special treat:

so of course, the system was immediately put in:

Now today I recieved my thermal paste, so CPU cooler upgrade time (borrowed from little brother)

attachicon.gifIMAG0062.jpg

decided to be impatient and just install OS to a single drive until I figured out the RAID issue (and by "I figured out" I do of course mean someone else tells me what I've done wrong) so windows 8 is up and running and I absolutely hate it. So a copy of windows 7 is on its way and hopefully I hall have sorted the RAID issue by then!

The CPU cooler looks interesting. What is the name of it ?

It is a Thermaltake SpinQT VT. I'd never heard of it, but my little brother gave me a loan of it until I got my watercooling loop ready so it was free haha!

going to sound like the novice I am here, but does the raid not automatically become partitioned? I am just wanting to use the whole array for OS and favourite games, or am I missing something really obvious?

when you set the bios to start up in raid it has to have an array set in order to boot to it....have you setup your array yet?

the array has been set up, and the BIOS can see that it is an array yes, but it is not a bootable option.

I attempted to install on the array after creating an image on my external SSD, here is the result:

I then tried installing it from a system image and it came up with a message that I didn't really understand:

I'm not sure how I changed from EFI to BIOS, so I am now completely stumped.

Thank you all for your patience by the way I can imagine this must be frustrating.

For Raid:

First find out if your board supports Integrated RAID at the BIOS level: You might need a RAID card

Set Hardrive type in bios from AHCI/IDE to RAID

Find the RAID drivers for your motherboard

run windows installation

when you get to the drive management screen the Raid drives probly wont be there

click load driver and load that driver from a flash drive or something

the drives should then pop up as one drive (size depends on type of raid)

Option: two install it on one drive and do windows dynamic disk "fake RAID"

RIGHT. So I managed it, thank you guys for your help, turns out I needed the intel RAID driver installed!

So now I just need to go through and install the other drivers, is it true that the ones I only need to focus on are LAN, AUDIO and Chipset or are there more I should download? Also do I need to download every driver in each category or just the newest one from each category?

Download the LAN driver first on a another computer and run windows update. That should pick up the rest of the drivers automagically

  • 1 month later...

Currently missing a phone, and thus a camera, thanks to some thieving div. However, I have news! my network card arrived recently, not getting great speeds on it though, it's an ASUS PCE AC68 for anyone interested, pictures shall go up when I can get them taken. If anyone has any ideas about getting it sped up I'd be very grateful.
