amd cpu doesnt actually bottleneck from a perspective

If you get a 280 and fx6300

Itll perform better than a i5 with r7 260x

I3 is 120

Fx 6300 is 80

R9 280 vs 270

Or

290 vs 280

The price diff is as close as i3 and fx6300

Yet the performance increase from 270 to 280 is significant in 1080

290 is 30% better than 280

The most bottleneck is 10fps from amd

But the gpu will recover it anyways or even be more superior

Price drops solve problems

Wanna know what really sucks.... The ONE GAME I tested (in diff locations) had pretty substantial results...

Keep in mind, Both systems are up to date, I built them both, following similar routines...

My System = i5 + R9 290

VS

Friends System = FX6300 + HD7950 (280) <-- the 280 is NO SLOUCH, providing MORE than 2/3 (60%+) of the 290's power.

Important bits...

So my mate has 2/3 or higher equivalent of my 290's ability.

My i5 and my 290 get 90-100fps Consistent Average FPS

So you'd be thinking the 280 would be @ or around 60FPS or higher...AT ALL TIMES.

Yet he is CONSISTENTLY averaging 28-35fps, with occasional rises to 45-60fps, which quickly falls back down on its ass.

I've checked over everything more than once...

His Bottleneck is REAL - His GPU is 60%+ of mine, yet only gets 25-35% the Average FPS I do.

(Not indicative of all games, I know that, but still....FUCK THAT SHIT)

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I know, i'm just kidding. I mostly agree with you. I like the FX6300 CPU, but the chipset is sooo old.  I guess it's fine for most people, but not for me.

Unlucky :(

Luck has nothing to do with it though...

Just the way AMD's cookie crumbles... on those games that do not use them properly...

The most bottleneck is 10fps from amd

What are you smoking!!!!!?!

You can't blanket a statement like that when it's not true.

I'm not saying there isn't a performance drop, but saying it's just 10fps is silly...

Varies game to game, sometimes VERY DRASTIC in the difference... like 50% or more...

Some games it's tied, some games it is a few percent behind...

You can't attach a value like 10fps in all things though....and say it's what it is...

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

@applesuxD

Are you contemplating on a new build?

I'm in SG and have access to prices here.

I can help formulate a build if you are having difficulty.

Or help clear up uncertainties if you have any.

Whats the price of r9 295x2 now

Used to be 2.5k even when price in usd dropped to 1000

And apart from SLS you should be able to get them from <Error 404 Not Found>

AMD GPUs don't really run well with low end CPUs so it seems,

i wish they would have continued looking at this in different games, but this is all they did.

Intel i5-3570K/ Gigabyte GTX 1080/ Asus PA248Q/ Sony MDR-7506/MSI Z77A-G45/ NHD-14/Samsung 840 EVO 256GB+ Seagate Barracuda 3TB/ 16GB HyperX Blue 1600MHZ/  750w PSU/ Corsiar Carbide 500R

the problem is that people play lots of different games with lots of different hardware configs. mantle is another thing to consider as well.

I like AMD as much as the next guy, but their CPU platform is just so freaking ancient. They're still on AM3, that socket has been around for donkeys years.

Just go look at 280 benhcmarks instead of using broscience.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sapphire-radeon-dual-x-r9-280,3914-3.html

The problem with CPU bottlenecks is they vary not just on game but on rendering scene.  There's this one window in the first mission of Crysis 3 that if I look through it, my framerate tanks to 35 FPS.  Everywhere else will run double or triple that... but something about the way that window interacts with my pc causes it to do that.  Likewise, if you stare at the floor everyone gets 90+FPS...
