BIOS Boot/System Drive Mystery

Go to solution Solved by Extingquish,

I was the same, I'll check if it was fixed when I re-installed windows with only my SSD plugged in

EDIT: yep, it did, try re installing windows with only your SSD plugged in, that's what fixed it for me anyway

Hey,

I'm slightly confused and I have no idea what I've done but my PC only boots from my HDD although windows is installed on my SSD. I did nothing special during my windows installation and yet it will only boot with the HDD set as the primary boot drive in the BIOS.

This is mimicked in the Disk Management utility which shows D as the "System" drive. and C as the "Boot" drive.

This may be caused by a Memtest installation on D?

There is also a clone of a laptop disk complete with its Windows installation stored deep inside D but that is not in the root?

I think in msconfig you should be able to set your SSD as the primary boot device under the boot tab.

So wait. You have to select your hard drive in the BIOS in order for it to boot from the SSD?

Strange, does it boot when you only have the SSD installed?

I can't disable either drive in disk management so I assume not.
