Sometimes, I have this wierd humming noise coming from my computer. It seems to be coming from the front of my case, where the hard drives are.

Does anybody recognize this sound?

you might have to turn up the volume a bit!

Thanks in advance!

its called resonance, likely caused by your HDD vibrating. Try to touch different components of your case and the hardware until you find the one causing the noise. Then do what you can to dampen it.

Thanks! i'll open up my computer and check all the screws holding the HDD's in place then.

I have this every time my PC boots, I just slap the top of my case and it goes away!

it's my mass storage mech drive vibrating in its caddy.

corsair were smart to include rubber grommets for the mounting but it doesn't stop the caddy from vibrating in its housing.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

not just that. Vibrations are transmitted through the whole case, meaning a vibrating HDD in the front could cause a loose part in the back to rattle. Its called resonance when the frequency of the vibration matches the natural oscillation frequency of any given part in your computer. That amplifies the strength of the vibrations and causes the loose part to rattle. Try touching different parts of your PC until you touch one of them and the noise stops. Then you've found the culprit.

nope not in anything I've played. the difference between the sandy bridge core i5s and haswell/devil's canyon is minimal at best. plus a modest overclock undoes anything that could be an issue.

the only thing that may hinder it is really shoddily ported games!

well the only thing that means is that intel should step it up

they're just sand bagging. they've no competition from amd so they don't need better cpus as nothing is it challenge them. I'm sure they have a great line of chips they can throw out if amd bring out something new and better
