Hi Guys,

I have a gigabyte gtx 980 g1. Can I sli with another brand gtx 980, if yes then will it cause problems due to the difference in clock speed etc?

I understand that the best option is to get the same brand but it costs way too ex and I could get another brand at a much lower cost.

Below are my options which I need your expertise on :

1) Sli with 2 different brands

2) Sli with a reference card (non- ref & ref card)

Thanks guys!

Yes but the faster card will clock down to match the slower card.

You are correct that they need to run at the same speed, but adjusting clocks yourself is trivial. But I'm not sure if it's even necessary, the faster card may match the slower one automatically.

Perfectly fine.

For SLI the card must be the same model (GTX 970 can only SLI with another GTX 970), and have the same amount of VRAM. (A GTX 760 with 4GB of VRAM cannot SLI with a GTX 760 with 2GB of VRAM.)

Branding of the card doesn't matter, for example: a ASUS GTX 980 STRIX and a GIGABYTE GTX 980 G1 GAMING could be put in SLI, or a reference GTX 980 and a GIGABYTE GTX 980 G1 GAMING.

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W
