Can he not just use the 1080p monitor on the laptop? aswell as the built in key board.

You ain't getting a new gaming laptop worth any kind of salt + a monitor + a keyboard + a mouse for $1000 AUS. hell, you're not getting a gaming laptop worth its salt for $1000 AUS.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I would recommend Asus j551 something like that ... ( I don't exactly remember the model number .. Correct me if I'm wrong ) .. Its just slightly higher than his budget .. It should be able to do pretty good ... As far as I know .. It runs a gtx 760m which is good enough for 1080p medium settings for most games . The best part of it is that it ships with a free gaming mouse , headphones and a subwoofer ... So you don't need to spend on those things :)
