AMD FX-6300 Accidental Overclock to 4.1 GHz

So... about 20 minutes ago, I was fucking around in MSI Command Center, I NEVER touched any of the OC buttons. Pressed apply to see what would happen, computer restart, said something about OC Genie, I went to my BIOS and it said my CPU was at 4100 MHz. Anyway, I had to go to MSI CC again to make it go back to 3500 MHz. Since FX-6300 turbo boosts to 4.1GHz, I didn't void my warranty..? pls tell me I didn't

I was just gonna say that it did, but I looked at my CPU box again, and it says:

"AMD's Product warranty does not cover damages caused by overclocking, even when overclocking is enabled via AMD hardware or software."

 

Case closed, NVM :D

you did not void it, but if you did somthing bad to it it would have not been covered

Damage and scorch marks and etc. only happen to a CPU if it gets too hot, right? Voltage has nothing to do with that?

Generally those things only happen to the motherboard, and that is pretty much caused by the voltage when there is too much power being delivered than its intended for. Heat is a direct result of the electricity/power but it will still happen even if you can keep the CPU cool, if you push it way too far.

 

Anyways, warranty on CPU is almost never needed as it's really uncommon for the CPU to die. There's no real way for them to tell if you OCed it anyways, but since it was just 4.1GHz I don't think that even counts as overclocking, lol. That's just the chip's turbo speed and sometimes boards auto-overclock.

 

For example I've never once touched a single CPU overclocking on my build, yet my 4690K runs constantly at 3.8-4GHz even under four core load.
