How old is your friend? You could try to give them tech classes, also what are you referring to by basics, tech is a very broad subject.

I think the best way to introduce your friend would be to dissect a PC. Either virtually, or physically. Show them what each part does, and why it does what it does, as well as how. Assemble it with them, but have them do the work. Let them get a feel for each piece of hardware. if they seem interested, they will search for knowledge. If they don't, involving them with tech likely won't lead anywhere.

I have been doing this for five years. anyways he wants to know computers and stuff. Manly hardware. But when I asked him if he knew what overclocking was or even a gigabyte he had no idea. He is in 9th grade.

The easiest way to teach is almost always with hands-on experience. Being able to physically handle the hardware and look at it.
