Upgrading my CPU and I need help

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

So just to be clear the items I should get are:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372&cm_re=4690k-_-19-117-372-_-Product

And

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130770&cm_re=MSI_Z97-Gaming_5-_-13-130-770-_-Product

Also if anyone has a better price from a reputable source on hand I would love to get a link to that. Current price is $391.

Also, I won't have to upgrade or change any of my other parts right? The motherboard will support all of them?

yes everything else is fine and you can run dual R9 280X on this board if you would want to.

best prices here:

Motherboard:

CPU:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k

If you happen to leave near a micro-center and can drive there they have an awesome in store pick up deal on a combo with the i5-4690K and MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboard for 299$:

http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

The time has come for me to upgrade my CPU. I am an avid gamer and my CPU can no longer run some of the newer games that are coming out. Main ones that I want to play are Dying Light and Assassin's Creed: Unity. I need to upgrade my CPU to something that will support my gaming for the next 2 to 3 years (If possible) and I'm fairly sure that in order to do that I will need to upgrade my Motherboard as well. My overall tech knowledge level is pretty low. I did build my computer from scratch but I had a lot of help from a friend's dad and he did most of the part searching for me.

Current Parts List:

CPU: Intel QuadCore i5 2320 CPU @ 3.00 GHz ~3.3GHz (Replacing)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H (Replacing)

RAM: 8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM
Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE 100363L Radeon R9 280X 3GB
PSU: Rosewill CAPSTONE-750-M 750W
Storage: 1TB Seagate drive and 1TB WD Black drive
Case: Zalman Z11Plus High Performance
OS: Windows 7
Coolermaster CPU cooler.

I have been looking around a bit and I think I want something like the MSI Z97-Gaming 5 and Intel Core i5-4690k (Edited based on popular suggestion and the fact that I'm stupid and didn't check the slot type). Again though, I don't really know very much about this kind of thing and I'm very open to suggestions and advice. I'd prefer to spend under $450 as that is the amount I currently have to spend and I'd like to upgrade ASAP. Also if anyone could point me in the direction of a guide for upgrading your Motherboard/CPU. From what I've seen it's not as simple as other part replacement.

Thank you in advance and please let me know if I left out any information,

Spork

If you're going with a z97 board, the 3570k will not work.  You need a 4690k.

Unfortunately the nearest Micro-center is almost 3 hours away so I would end up spending almost the difference in gas to get there. thank you for the suggestion though.

alright then go onto the sites linked by pcpartpicker and compare final prices in cart including shipping to find which ones would be the cheaper overall.

Any idea if the site www.Superbiiz.com is reputable? I've never heard of it before and there are mixed reviews but they have a much better price on the CPU.

I've personally got an i5-4690K and I haven't even overclocked it... the thing is an absolute beast. It can run Battlefield 4 64P multiplayer at over 100 fps minimum if you've got the graphical horsepower. If you can afford it that's a great way to go.

Oh no doubt about that the i5-4690K is a very strong quad-core CPU that is perfect for gamers...budget wise it's where you get the most performance for your bucks honestly if you factor in the added 25% or so performance that you could potentialy get from overclocking the chip it really becomes a value champion when it comes to gaming honestly.

Yeah... I'd overclock it, but I don't have any reason to yet. None of my games fall below 60 fps except for MMOs which will do that anyways because their engines are garbage, lol. Plus I don't have an aftermarket cooler yet. Will probably keep it running at stock until it seems to be struggling to keep up, otherwise it's just extra heat for no reason.

yeah that's how i see it as well...i have an aftermarket CPU cooler but i keep the voltages way low...my i7 is able to run 100% stable at 4.2ghz with only 1.19v so that's what i'm using since i know it won't output significantly more heat at those settings...im planning overclocking that chip till it dies on me later when i'll have the need for more performance (with next gen GPU's and more advanced games) i plan on ordering a 240mm AIO by then.
