Hi

I got an assembled PC with the following configuration

1. Intel i7 4790K processor

2. Asus z97-A Mobo

3. Kingston DDR3 RAM 2 x 8 GB HX318C10F/8

4. Hyper 212x cooler master cpu cooler

I installed the trial version of windows 7 enterprise edition x64 OS. All is fine till now. The next time when I start the computer, it comes to the login screen and restarts again and keeps restarting like this for 3 to 4 times before I am able to type password and get inside. Sometimes, the system restarts in the middle and complains windows did not shut down properly giving me the safe mode screen.

I installed Windows 8 and it repeats. On windows 8 , when I start the system, it gives me a message applying updates and reboots and again says applying updates and reboots and this cycle continues for sometime.

I called up the vendor who sold me this hardware and he came up with a weird theory that ASUS z97-A mobo does not support trial versions of windows OS. But ASUS tech support did not buy this argument. They told me that mobo supports the trial verisons of the OS.

Could there be some problem with the hardware - processor or memory or mobo? Could somebody help me. Its been a week since I purchased this machine? Is the UEFI BIOS setting causing this problem. I went for default option in UEFI BIOS. The only other BIOS setting I did is enabled virtualization for CPU

Regards

Srinivas

the OS should work with all boards

What drive did you have in your system?

are you able to run the system with just one stick of RAM?

reset the BIOS and make sure your SATA is set to AHCI mode and using UEFI mode for the BIOS boot

if not download the latest BIOS and flash the mobo to see if that helps

Hi

Thanks for the reply

I am using the Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500 GB harddisk and LG optical drive. The hardisk is something that I purchased a couple of years back for storage and was connecting it externally using USB to my laptop. I just plugged this harddisk inside the desktop PC which I purchased last week.

I didn't check the RAM with one stick but I have a question on RAM. I was watching the assembly of the PC and the technician put the two RAM sticks in two slots which are right next to each other . There are two black color RAM slots and two grey color RAM slots on the mobo. Should the RAM sticks be placed in the same color slots which means either in the black color slots or grey color slots but not one in black color and one in grey color. The technician put one in black color and one in grey color slot. I asked him and he said it doesn't matter.

I heard of AHCI mode and UEFI mode but can't find that in the BIOS. Can you let me know where they are?

try to see if you could get a brand new HDD with at least 1TB of disk space

one way it could be the HDD is slowly dying

for RAM installation use the same color slot for dual channel

for AHCI mode will be under the boot or drive selection
