One of my favorite things to do is to dream about a system something i would put together if i had unlimited money.  what i mean by system is everything except peripherals.  because i know the price of a system can skyrocket as soon as you start adding in peripherals.  i was tinkering around and these are the two systems i came up with...  i don't work in the industry and i don't build systems all the time so please forgive me if these are lowbrow.  however i would like to hear responses from everyone either if you have a system close to one of these or your a professional and you can lend some incite.   X99 System Vs Server System

and if you care here is my current system

I can't tell you how many times I've seen the same type of post. Anyone can pick out really expensive parts and call it a "dream" build

i am sorry you think that.  but that isn't what i did here i actually put some thought in to it.  i wanted a well built system.  yes i know its over kill and i know some of these parts are very expensive.  but it wouldn't be a dream if it was in reach would it.  if you have any comments on how the system is built or what you would have done differently i would like to hear that.  thanks for your post.

4 980's causes compatibility issues, I would have done a 2-way instead. A lot of everything is overkill for gaming, and by overkill I mean +1fps. A thermaltake PSU, really? And I would have got a 760t or a 750d instead. Besides all that you didn't actually build it, seeing a list on partpicker of the most expensive parts you can find doesn't show experience nor skill.

What would you do differently?

more overkill X99 3+1 1440p 144Hz with SSDs and no hard drives, those would be in the network but not in the big boy: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nCQnCJ

and for the server/workstation overkill id wait for the new 18 cores and the M6000 to release

tell you what you fit the bill and i will practice my building of systems.  as i posted earlier i actually put a bit of thought in to this build.  i appreciate your incite; however i don't like the attitude. if you want to badger me like a child go right ahead but for now on out i will ignore you.  i came here because i wanted to hear educated discussions on an idea.  not feel like i am back in middle school.

as for the thermaltake psu i was under the idea there company was actually good. as for the cases good idea.

so your saying after two GPU the increase of frame rate is only one fps?

No, X99 is overkill for gaming at least. My point is though, learn from the members of the forum and eventually build a PC that you can post here, that's what the forum is here for, and is where I got a lot of my experience. Sorry if I offended you but I have seen the same "dream pc" post a lot here.

who said anything about gaming.  i will be working with 3d cad.  and similar software.  i never said it was a gaming system.  i appreciate your incite.  i picked the asus x99-e Ws because it was a workstation variant of their boards. i would hope to build a system that would run for a long time.  my computer runs 24-7 some times with heavy stress (boink) or 3d rendering  when i am doing work.  i believe that x99 allows me to have a system to expand later and buff it up now without any worries.  as for the work station board i think the options (yes over the top) are quality.

Well the usual situation is a gaming pc, sorry I just assumed. And sorry I'm anal retentive, "incite" is spelled "insight"

its extream, who cares about costs. you can build linuses 48TB homeserver cloud thing with those crives as backup, and everything else is fast.

the 18 core 36 thread on 4 socket board, 72 cores 144 threads, with about 2TB ECC RAM, and a few M6000s with a 2x3 4K IPS 10bit monitor wall is not released yet and not available in PCPP :P
