Hey there guys, so I was just in surgery for pneuomothorax just two weeks ago, and got out a week ago. The doctors told me not to workout for 3 months or so, but after surgery I could see that I was shrinking drastically, didn't like it, so I went to the gym and did.

Now it seems as if the area where there the doctor operated(under the shoulder, where the ribcage is) is really tight as if there's something there.

Anyone who has had surgery for pneumothorax please tell me, is this normal, or should I stop going to the gym? And what can I do to maintain some size/ fitness if I cant weightlift?

That's lung related. The doctor told you not to work out for a reason.

Stop and visit the doctor.

Stop going to the gym for the 3 or so months, then after that you can resume going.

You should probably visit the doctor if it feels like something's amiss, you might have torn something internally and that's potentially really serious.

I don't mean to scare you but, just saying, it could be serious.

Was the incision in the area of your shoulder? Edit: I just re-read the post.

When did you work out?

Uhm I worked out the last 3 days, and it gets tighter everytime. I'll stop for a week, see if it gets better, God I hope it does

Definitely stop. If you rip something internally you could bleed internally and that would be really bad news (it could be life-threatening). I want to tell you that if it doesn't loosen up then you should definitely go to the doctor but to be honest I think the only good advice is to go to the doctor anyway and get it checked out.

If you absolutely have to work on your physique pick up a book called the New High Protein Diet by Doctor Charles Clark (he's a medically qualified specialist that runs the English equivalent of an Ivy-league weight-loss clinic in London). I won a fitness competition at my local training centre following the diet in that book. People were telling me I looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger and all I did was reduce my percentage body fat so that my muscles were more visible. I looked like a body-builder but all I did was loose the layer of fat that was stopping my muscles from looking defined.

Also, if you've had to stop exercising for a while and haven't been able to be very active there's a chance that it might be weight gain that's making you feel like you're loosing your muscle mass (because it's making you look less defined).

My advice would be go to the doctor to

1. Get your shoulder etc. checked out.

2. Get advice about from the doctor about change of diet given your recent surgery etc. and spend the time you need resting working on your diet and learning how to reduce percentage body fat for better definition.

I actually am thin, ectomorph body type, so I can clearly see my muscles at any point of time. The thing is, I am sure it has shrunk, and even my friends tell me so, that I've become smaller and stuff. In addition, I've also lost weight so it can't be weight gain. I don't know, kinda sucks. Alright I'll give it 4 days, and if it's still bad, I'll definitely get it checked out!
