Terve!

I won't cover the past of my machine in details, but I've RMAed three mainboards in the last 6 months.

This time, I cannot change settings in the BIOS. They just won't apply.

Since I've tested the rest of my rig with every mainboard over again, I don't think that there is a problem.

With that said, I think that the problem is eighter in the BIOS itsself or in Windows that does not allow these settings to be used.

I also tried AMD Overdrive. I made it to about 4.4. GHz, then the System just clocked down to 1.4GHz after half an hour.

If I put in the XMP Profile (or set the settings manually) the system shoots for a no post.

I alredy tried to flash the BIOS to the newest version.

The hardware details are in my signature under "CoolingMachine".

Should someone have a guess about an other part being defective, just post, I have almost a spare machine to diagnose.

Note: It is the first time that I can use a Gigabyte mainboard, so there is a valid chance of false use.

Is there an option that I can get the settings to work without an other RMA?

Thank you all already.

So your problem is that you aren't able to use the XMP profile for your RAM?

If thats the case well, then I would suggest you to just run the RAM at the speed it's currently running at, without the XMP profile.

And i'm not familiar with AMD overclocking so someone else will have to help you with that lol.

If your system clocking down to 1.4Ghz thats either to save power when your CPU isn't doing anything(which is perfectly normal) or it's because your CPU is too hot and it's throttling down so avoid overheating/damaging the CPU.

Well, the problem is not only that the RAM does not run at XMP.

I cannot change any settings in the BIOS to get it applied to the PC.

My system was clocking down during a stress test, and the CPU is liquid cooled, so I do not think that it's going to overheat that fast.

AMD Overdrive told me that the CPU still had about 30°C of "thermal reserves", which should not result in a downclocking.

Also should the throttling end, when the system is going into a lighter load after.

Thanks for the tries anyways.

Nvm, found it in your Sig. Just making sure the power delivery is adequate.

Terve!

Sorry, apparently I am writing a hell of a lot too complicated:

The hardware details are in my signature under "CoolingMachine".

In my signature it says "AMD FX 8150 @ max. 4.9Ghz, Gigabyte 990FX UD3 Rev. 4," This is it.

An AMD FX 8150 (or 8350) CPU and a Gigabyte 990FX UD3 Rev 4.

Altough I am currently using the FX 8350, it should not be that different.

I am not shure about what you mean with "power delivery".

I have (as you can also read in the signature) a Corsair AX 760, which should be enough for an overclock of 4.4 GHz, when I had the 8150 running at 4.9GHz.

Also the mainboard supports the 9xxx Chips, so it should have enough power for it.

Also OC is officially supported by this mainboard.

Terve!

I am not shure, if you only want to know "Terve", if so: PM me.

Because I have seen a lot of confusion in this topic, I'll try to explain matters, so you can understand it, without knowing it already.

I have put my new Gigabyte 990FX UD3 Rev. 4 in my PC. Also I am using an AMD FX 8350 processor.

As I tried to change the BIOS settings (baseclock, CPU multiplier and CPU Voltage) they did not apply.

I had readings of the CPU running at 4 GHz straigt. Same with the voltage.

Next, I tried to at least get my RAM working at the speed of 1866MHz, which the memory is officially rated for (Corsair Vengeance 4x4 Kit).

This ended in a no post.

I reset the BIOS and tried to flash it, because why not?

Then I tried it again, and had no success.

After that I tried to do all with AMD overdrive. I put up the volts and the multiplier.

After half an hour of Intel burn test, the system staticly clocked down to 1.4 GHz.

I do not think that the CPU is throttling, because it is liquid cooled and Overdrive said that the CPU is running at 40°C.

Because I have had three defective mainboards in the last six month I have tested all my components and think that they are all ok.

Also, I have an other set of Hardware lying around (apart from a mainboard), so I can change things out.

For that matter, please let me know, if someone has an idea what could be defective, other than the BIOS or some setting I did wrong.

I hape I could make things a little more clear.

Thank you anyway.

Yes, that's basically all I was after. Since you seem to begin every post with that, I was curious. And for the same reason (= you saying it every time) I don't feel like needing to PM you about it, as it should be neither private nor secret then. Plus I'm not that curious about it, that I feel the need to ask twice. ;) So you could either tell everyone what you mean by that, or if you prefer, keep it entirely to yourself. I'll be fine with both. :)

Might be. That is the first thing I've heard since forever that actually could get in my problem.

I've had 5 dead mainboards so far in the last 12 months or so.

And since I always have to somehow "squeeze" my MBs in, when I have my rig together and I need to replace the mainboard.

I'll be a lot more cautious with the next MBs.

you probably have a faulty CPU or a bad PSU that's what causing you to kill motherboards like that!

I doubt that, because I have a "test rig" that has hardware that has worked in an other PC.

No matter which system I choosed first, it was always dead.

Also: How could it hurt the SATA interface, the next time the ethernet interface and the next time an no poster and the next time the BIOS?

I cannot really imagine that this can be like that, to be honest.

Thank you anyways.

By power delivery I meant the 8+2 power phases on the board, but they are fine. I honestly have no idea what the problem could be.
