5930k is the most you will need for gaming. GTX 980 SLI is a nice touch.

5930k is overkill for gaming. grab a i7 4790k and grab 3 980s

going X99 is only worth it's value if you're intending to use your pc for processes that will actually take advantage of the additional cores and functions it offers. For gaming both 5930k or 5960k won't offer much value over a 4790k or even a 4690k. Still if you're dead set on going X99 the 5930k will be the better option.

Like 3 980 isn't overkill at all lol. I rather go for 5930k with  2 980 then 4790k with 3 980 since the cpu will last alot longer then the gpu most of the time plus alot of game don't scale well with 3 or more gpu.

get a 4790k and two GTX970...spend the rest somewhere esle...go out, have fun...enjoy life.
