Boot drive change

Go to solution Solved by Doughnutnator,

What @Godlygamer23 said.

If you're swapping to a SSD is kinda better to do a clean install so you get the most of it.

Is it possible to install an OS on one drive, then transfer it to another drive later on?

If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

You are a psychic. Won't that make all my programs wind up in the wrong copy of the programs file, and I won't have anything on my desktop?

SSDs normally come with cloning software to use. Fresh installs are the recommended route though.

If I have everything installed on drive a, and reinstall windows on drive B, then all my programs will be in the program files on drive a, not drive B, so Windows won't pick them up, as it will be looking for programs on drive B. Right?

Yes. The point of reinstalling is to start fresh.

So I would just re download everything? What about saved files on games?

If you use Steam and/or Origin, cloud features would likely be enabled by default and that means your save files would be sitting in Valve and EA's servers respectively.

No. If you transfer the games to some sort of external hard drive(just copy them), reinstall the OS and all your programs, move the games back, and make sure Steam and Origin have those targets set. If it doesn't work, have them both repair the installations.

That was the best answer, but read godly gamers posts as well. He was super helpful.
