Hello

I have come into conclusion that i must buy a racing wheel for my racing sims. But the catch here is that i cannot go crazy and drop 350 usd on a G27. My budget is around 50 usd ( could be 55 or cheaper if its good) Is there a viable solution for me? I was looking at some thrustmaster wheels and i couldnt make my mind if they're any good as they seemd plasticy in the pictures. I want a sturdy rugged one that is precise , includes pedals and is overall good.

thx for help

Get used ones if needed! 50 USD I am not sure but used/new logitech momo racing wheels are quite cheap.(got mine for 75 Singapore dollars if im not wrong)  I used it before selling it off due to studies and what not, a good wheel, nice FFB and sturdy build. Not sure about TM but check out insidesimracing on youtube if you need any reviews or recommendations

Try to find one that looks good lol. "Like new" listing would be best. Try craigslist or something. Not sure if you can find a good wheel around 50, there is the ferrari 5 in 1, but its so small its the size of a slick's palm?

I would look at a used Logitech Force Gt as I got mine for $75 Canadian. The momo is an older wheel but still pretty good as its basically the predecessor to the Driving Force Pro and Driving Force GT.

I would say the cheapest GOOD racing wheel to get is the Logitech Driving Force GT. Trust me, I had a cheap thrustmaster and it was terrible. It barely had any steering rotation and half the games I had would not recognise it as a wheel. The DFGT is totally worth your money.

Setup: i5 4670k @ 4.2 Ghz, Corsair H100i Cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB Ram @ 1600 Mhz, MSI Z87-GD65 Motherboard, Corsair GS700 2013 edition PSU, MSI GTX 770 Lightning, Samsung EVO 120 SSD + 2TB&1TB Seagate Barracudas, BenQ XL2411T Monitor, Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones + AntLion ModMic 4.0

I use an Xbox 360 Racing Wheel (Microsoft official) for NFS Shift and some others.  I like it, but I don't know how it compares to other wheels as it's the only one I've used.

Maybe you can find a deal on one.

Like others have already mentioned, the DFGT is a solid choice that will fit your budget. That is if you can find one for that price. Its a great wheel that I used for GT5 and some PC games. Has a nice solid feel in the wheel itself, force feedback is strong, and the gas\brake pedals are ok for what they are. Too bad I gave mine away some time ago when I upgraded to my Fanatec CSR and Elite pedals. But I'm sure there are others out there that will unload the DFGT for a decent price.

Asus Gryphon w/Thermal Armor / Intel i5 4670K / Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB / Asus ROG Matrix 7970 Platinum / Samsung 830 / Seagate Barracuda

Corsair AX860 / Corsiar 350D / Corsair H100i / Windows 8 Pro

If you can afford it, get DFGT. It's like MoMo but everything is bit higher quality. I got used momo at march and have been using it since. Not much but I have noticed things I don't really enjoy. Older logitech wheels are great quality and my momo is in good shape. It works and its enought for 30e price. Things I don't like in momo are small wheel size and loose pedals. Otherwise it's good wheel. Buying used is not bad choise. Just keep eye on prices and sellers. Finding one in good shape before others get it is tough job ;)

  • 3 months later...

$50 for a wheel, that will only buy you a peice of garbage that looks like a wheel.

Not even worth getting a $50 wheel as it wont last.

best thing is to save up, or work hard and get a package deal from Fanatec.

The CSR elite wheel / pedals and shifter set is a good happy medium starter package.

If you want full professional set look into the clubsport editions.

For racing a good 3 pedal unit is a must to get the full experience.

^^^ That's the rig i use, its pretty good, the Elite pedal set makes a big difference.

if you buy a $50 wheel, you will be buying another one some time in the future

anything less than a G27 is mostly a waste. if it doesn't feel and respond like a wheel, it's not going to help immersion or accuracy at all - it will just feel like a gimmick. at $50, it will definitely feel like a plastic toy wheel for toddlers rather than a tool of a "racing sim"

Well, how did you dig up this topic??

I have saved up and got a new driving force GT, its a great wheel and im enjoying it.

The Fanatec option you suggested is a bit of an overkill for me.. I only play singleplayer games and dirt 3 with my friend. I dont really do those serius competitions like iracing.com, ergo i dont need a 400USD setup.

But thanx for advice, even if its a little late :D

I had a look at the fanatec website... damn my lack of income :(

it's such a bother trying to find a good wheel for a decent price with a clutch pedal..

And the 6speed H pattern shifter kit. mmmmmmmm

Really nice setup btw!

lol didn't check the date of post, my bad

but you used the word "racing sim", which is why I wouldn't have recommended a $50 wheel - I would have just got a controller since it has a lot of uses and is way less of a hassle to setup

I used to be big on racing sims, but I think the tedium of mounting the wheel and messing with settings just getting the car to feel realistic just ruined it for me. then again, I go out to events with my actual car these days, so I guess that helps :)

I used the search option as i couldn't see a thread in the forum about racing wheels etc and thought i would search first before making a new one,

well a driving force GT is pretty ok, way better than a $50 wheel.

Fanatec make different options for different budgets, mine is happy medium (Porsche GT3 wheel, CSR Elite pedals, Clubsport table clamp, CSR shifter kit) and its not that expensive compared to the CSR elite wheel or clubsport wheel and pedals.
