Hello

Recently I built a new PC with an 4790k on maximus 7 hero with h60 providing heat relief. Naturally I considered OC,because why not right? However I was curious about my temps as is and what I found kinda made me go huh.

When running under no significant load ie browsing web i get w5GLsBv.png

However running prime95 on the blend preset for 7 mins gives me acKh9l5.png

Now the fun bit as soon as i stop prime 95 this happens pLVurRA.png

Now im quite baffled by these "findings" because the ability to dissipate 50 degrees within 15 seconds seems quite unreal since if the H60 was that great it wouldnt allow for such high temps in the first place. Is this normal and should i proceed with OC or should I perhaps look into getting a better cooling solution or maybe reapply thermal paste or flip the fan on the rad? Or just be happy and not fiddle with anything since it works for my day to day usage where it never goes past 60 degrees.

STOP using prime 95 immediately

never use it on intel CPUs

use intel extreme tuning utility for stress testing

Prime is fine on Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs. Haswell CPUs on the other hand are a no-no.

IETU on 7 minute run never went over 60. Someone mind answering why do those two produce such different results and which one provides "better" or "less" synthetic results?

Two things: Prime overvolts Haswell CPUs and IETU is less stressful than other programs.
