I'm planning to get a new rig for editing and have been eyeing the X99 E WS for a while, I have all the other parts already and the money for the board is also ready but there are some questions I want to ask your opinion on:

1. I have seen some pretty bad reviews on newegg about the board being damaged during shipping, DoA or has problems regconising RAM and CPU so I just want to ask if anyone owned one of these out there and whats their experience on it, did yours came perfectly, damaged, where did you buy it from?

2. I currently have the board already ordered on Amazon but they don't have one in stock right now and they are not giving an estimation on when the board will be in stock. (I'm trying to get one directly from Amazon, not from third party retailers who sells the board on Amazon) I want to ask whether buying the board directly from Amazon will decrease the chances of getting defects because this is a one shot thing for me as I have to ship the board from the US all the way to Viet Nam so I won't have a chance to RMA it if it has any problems.

I was waiting for Linus to do a review of the board and talk about his experience with it but it doesn't look like he's going to make one.

Hope to hear from someone with one of these soon, thanks

How can Linus not have did a review on his favourite board?

Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. The True Path of the Feathered One. ~ Dimboble-dubabob III

Perhaps look at the asrock ws boards. They seems to have stable BIOSes and good RAM + addin controller support.

a few problems with the X99 WS from Asrock that I want to ask about is: 1. I bought a Thunderbolt EX II Dual from Asus, does the X99 WS support that card or do they use a different TB connector on their board? 2. I'm running an I7 5820k so I have some major pcie lane management issues, Asus solved that with the X99 E WS because they put in a PLX8747 that helps provide more lane support (48 from the PLX8747) so it might be a problem as I'm going to need much many more lanes to be able to get everything working on the Asrock X99 WS

How can Linus not have did a review on his favourite board?

I'm not sure, I would love to see him review the board though, he used it in the silent build but doesn't talk a whole lot about it, maybe it doesn't have many improvement over the earlier WS boards from Asus

1. yes, it does support the asus TB connector (they are currently all the same).

2. The Asrock WS also has the same PLX chip so no need to worry :)

I suggest the Asrock X99 WS-E not the WS btw ;) (it has 2 x PLX chips, so you can run 4 GPUs at x16 with you 5820k o.0 + a raid card).

I looked further into the X99 WS-E from Asrock, it's a shame it doesn't support TB though, could have been the board for me, TB is really important for me right now

Sorry if it seems like I'm complaining too much, it's just that I'm so close to finishing my rig but problems like this are in the way.

I guess I'll either wait and see if the situation with the X99 E WS will get better or I'll wait for new X99 boards that are coming out soon and at the same time adopt usb type c too :P . Not entirely sure yet, if you are seeing this @LinusTech I don't mind buying that board off your hands after you are done with it :) Although the one that Linus has is probably a reviewer's sample though, I don't think Asus will be very happy if he sells it xD

edit: fixed grammar mistake, sorry :P

Between the Asus and Asrock WS-E I like the WS-E/10G varient from Asrock as it matches my color scheme.

And also quad lan.

But the Asrock boards are more expensive than the Asus boards.

Well the WS-E is ~ as expensive as the WS-E from Asus. Does bring more features, especially the ES-R/10G variant.

except that it doesn't lol, I'm pretty sure the TPM header is not it, it is called a "Trusted Platform Module" used for locking down softwares on the motherboard with a chip, similar to what Apple does to their stuff

I would love that quad Lan but it is not very useful if the rig is not hooked up to any kind of storage server (This is my personal editing rig so I don't exactly have a server lying around for storage) and I'm still a student so paying for 4 Internet connections is not very ideal :P

I'm pretty sure the Asrock board is $100 more expensive than the x99-E WS from Asus, both are very good and beautiful boards though

I think you are talking about the X99 WS, the X99 WS supports TB but no PLX chip, it supports 4 way SLI at 8x/8x/8x/8x thats for the 40 lane CPUs, not a PLX feature

The X99 WS E on the other hand has 2 PLX chip but has no TB header -.-

Why won't anyone make a perfect motherboard  :(

Seriously o.0 My bad.

It's ok, blame Asrock for their naming scheme xD

Still, does no one in the forum other than Linus owns a X99 E WS from Asus? If you see this Linus, please do a review of the board... that would be greatly appreciated, I'm pretty sure everyone wants to hear what you think about the new motherboard from your favourite line of Asus boards :)

thanks for the link to the review, that helped me learn a lot more about some of the technical features of the board and where they are located although she didn't talk about the stability or amount of DoA X99 E WS boards out there :P

I've read a lot of DOA for the WS-E on Newegg, but I'm hesitant to go asrock again...

I was waiting for Linus to do a review of the board and talk about his experience with it but it doesn't look like he's going to make one.

Linus doesn't make reviews on motherboards any more, since there is not really any point of doing so, there are a lot of board overviews on YouTube. Also don't listen to the reviews on newegg, because, frankly, half of the people there are retards that don't know how to work with a computer at all. The X99 WS board form Asus is probably the best built and most respected board out there. Just make sure to do a BIOS update and you will be good to go.
