I was curious if there would be any benefit to upgrading from my amd fx 6300 to an 8350 or higher. I have an asus m5a97 r2.0 mobo and an nvidia evga gtx geforce 760 w dual ACX cooling. 8 gb Kingston hyperx fury red 1866 MHz ram. Thanks in advance. I typically game in several different types from Minecraft to bf4 and the like.

Not for most GAMES...

The most performance gain in CPU's would probably be to a 4690K or something.

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

i7 9700K (5.2Ghz @1.2V); MSI Z390 Gaming Edge AC; Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB 3200 CAS 16; H100i RGB Platinum; Samsung 970 Evo 1TB; Samsung 850 Evo 500GB; WD Black 3 TB; Phanteks 350x; Corsair RM19750w.

Laptop: Dell XPS 15 4K 9750H GTX 1650 16GB Ram 256GB SSD

Moving to an i5-4440 and a cheap H series motherboard would yield much more benefit...but your parts are balanced as is, i'm sure the FX is feeding the GTX760 all it can handle in most games...upgrading the GPU to something stronger would expose the FX weaknesses in form of a cpu bottleneck, moving to a stronger CPU won't really give you that much of a gain due to the GPU limitations...all in all i think you should stick to what you have for a while and perhaps learn overclocking if your motherboard is up to the task and you have good CPU cooling.

You have a good mid-range gaming machine and it will remain mid-range unless you can buy both a core i5 haswell processor and an high-end GPU in the form of a GTX 970 or radeon R9 290X for example.

I think if you can sell your 6300 for a decent price it might be worth it for a cheap 8350.  Wouldn't be a terrible upgrade for $50-80.

Might be better off putting that money towards an h80 or something and overclocking the 6300.
