2 980's would perform the best in games, and probably outperform a SINGLE Titan in editing (assuming thats what you're doing).

The only advantage the Titan's have is Double precision Floating point...

Just remember: Random people on the internet ALWAYS know more than professionals, when someone's lying, AND can predict the future.

Go with a quadro you said professional so I think you would need that, but I can't be sure I know 2 980's would have more power than a quadro at the price range but they don't have double precision or float points  - can't remember the name -  and other features I don't know maybe someone will help.

This is one of the 'lies' that is often used to advertised overpriced WS cards. Quadros have their uses but most professional applications don't actually need WS cards.

using maya, zbrush mudbox, premiere pro etc.

What kind of content are you working on? Are you using any cuda or opencl-based renderers?

i use vray, mental ray and at times renderman.

So.. what kind of work do you do?--modeling, animation?

Edit: (I'm just curious at this point. It seems like any of the mentioned graphics cards would be fine for what you're doing. A Titan would be the best option but more for compatability than double precision)

i also use real-time renderers like marmoset toolbag and programs like substance painter which requires alot of gpu processing power

Substance painter isn't that gpu heavy. A decent amount of vram is generally what's needed.

Hmm, I still don't where that was mentioned.

Either way, this wording is much more clear if I didn't understand before.

with that being said should i even bother waiting for the possible release of the next titan 2 or whatever they call it or just stick with the titan?

*shrug

There's little clue to if and how a Titan 2 would end up.
