Sharing results after delidding my 4670k

Hey fellow LTT forumers! Just here to share my results of delidding the 4670k.

(Initially, I ran 4.5Ghz at 1.335v on my AIDA64 test, 1.335v is actually for my 4.6Ghz settings and I forgot to turn the voltage down :P So I went ahead and ran AIDA64 with 1.335v as well with MX-4 applied both inside and out of the IHS with the frequency set to 4.5 as well. On 4.5Ghz I will be running 1.32v, but I cant go back and test it again on 1.32 before delidding so here it is.)

Here's the first result, before delidding, with MX-4 thermal paste.

And the result after delidding with MX-4 inside and outside of the IHS.

Just got my hands on the Noctua NT-H1 today and I've ran AIDA64 with the same settings above. Seems to be only a few degrees cooler with the NT-H1 and up to 7 degree celcius cooler on core #4.

Here's my actual and correct OC at 4.5Ghz with 1.32v.

I'm also looking to get the CLU since there's been a lot of positive reviews using it with a delidded CPU on the die.

Brave move deliding! Although I would have expected more of a result. :P

Cheers for sharing, pretty interesting stuff.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

interesting, but thats a lot of work to get - 5 degrees. Whats the max "safe" temp for haswell? 85-90? i guess 85

also are those 12v reads normal? 11.9/11.8

wow that was really a waste of time and a un-justified risky move isn't it!

At least you didnt messed up and it still works.

Yeah, 90°C is the max safe temperature.

The delidding didn't offer much in the way of thermal reduction. That's a shame. Still, any reduction is not to be scoffed at.

Yeah it's a pity that I couldn't get too much out of delidding but I'm still happy with getting ~5C decrease in temps. :) I'm just waiting for the Cool laboratory Ultra TIM to arrive and will see if it gives a better temp. I've read on other forums or posts that they are getting the best result with CL ultra or pro :o will update here as well as soon as I get to try it :D

Hey I've had the exact same questions too when I first saw my 12v rail voltage.

But iirc, I've read on some forum that ATX specification is ± 10% on the 12V rail. So it should be alright to go as low as 10.8v and up to 13.2v.

Btw I'm using the Corsair RM750 PSU :)

  • 2 weeks later...

UPDATE: Got my CLU today, and did the exact same stress test with the Cool Laboratory Ultra and the same Noctua NT-H1 on the IHS. I get 4~7 degrees cooler with the CLU this time.
