i cant believe pcper are also making this mistake

everyone is praising AMD for their "freesync monitors" when really AMD didnt do shit, other than make firmware for their GPUs to use adaptive sync.

The AMD press release linked calls them "FreeSync-enabled" monitors. looks like pcper just forgot to add the "enabled".

AMD actively worked on adaptive sync. They're called freesync monitors right now mostly due to only AMD cards having the capability to use adaptive sync at the moment. I'm a hardcore team green fanboi and I'm not bothered by the name.

If Nvidia starts using adaptive sync as it is implemented in DP 1.2a then we'll start calling them Adaptive Sync monitors.

AMD is largely responsible for that. They were the ones that pitched the idea to VESA in the first place. It's true it is based on an existing VESA feature from eDP, but AMD still had to experiment with it before Adaptive-Sync was standardized into DisplayPort and pushed VESA to get it standardized. AMD and VESA have been working closely through the whole thing, it's not as if VESA just released DP 1.2a and adaptive-sync of their own accord.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/vesa-displayport-freesync-adaptive-sync-g-sync,26765.html

"AMD reportedly made a pitch to VESA to implement this, and it appears now that VESA has accepted the suggestion."

There was definitely AMD involvement. I'm not saying they invented the whole thing but for the last several months they've been involved. From what the guys I know who work for AMD have said, it would be a disservice and unfair to say AMD has nothing to do with getting adaptive sync monitors to market.

I just don't understand why we're even arguing about this.

Back on topic: I'm really glad BenQ look to be in a position to release the first f-sync/a-sync alternative to the ROG Swift. They've been improving greatly lately and I think they'll be able to set the bar at the right place in terms of price vs. features.

I'm disappointed that they didn't show off their BL2420PT. A lot of people would be interested in that.

I agree. If anyone puts out a 3440x1440 34" adaptive sync model, they can have my money. 144hz fits into the bandwidth limitations of the displayport 1.2 spec, and there are 2560x1440 ips running at 120Hz, some coming out that will be adaptive sync, (Asus MG279Q) so it's not like they can't do it. Even if it only maxed out at 60hz but still had adaptive sync it would be nice.

I'm guessing LG figures 3440x1440 sells to the professional/productivity crowd, and adaptive sync sells to the gamer crowd. Or, they don't want to put to many untried features in one product. Who knows.

I guess they just want to harvest all the moneys.

it's a shame.

But i just recently fell in love with dells U3415W. Curved, 34", 3440x1440, 740€.

If it had g-sync it would be an insta buy but i guess that'll take one more CES :D

omg the misinformation...

Well AMD did "invent" Adaptive Sync, and pitched it to VESA. However, these monitors ARE actually Freesync monitors, as AMD now has a certification program (royalty free of course). This program ensures, that Adaptive Sync monitors gives a good end user experience, and I guess, will work perfectly with Freesync drivers. I assume monitors will be able to use this logo, if certified:

amd-freesync-technology.png

http://techreport.com/news/27650/here-240-fps-footage-of-amd-freesync-tech-and-some-new-info

Monitors like Asus' MG279Q, has DisplayPort 1.2a, and supports adaptive sync (unofficially?). It will not be a Freesync monitor, as it will not get certified.

Indeed, but I guess 3440x1440 is too hard to run for most gaming computers, so focusing on a lower resolution, will give a better experience for most gamers.. My dream monitor right now, is a curved 34" 3440x1440 monitor with Free sync support. And at a price, that will be lower than the price of a black market kidney.... I heard..
