Enough Voltage for SLI

TheRealSon

Hello All,

I have been wanting to add a second GTX 780 for awhile now but have been concerned about my limited PSU. I have a OCZ 750 Watt  PSU as well as an i5-3570k that is water cooled and overclocked. Of the several sites i looked at that offer psu calculators i seem to be over or right at the wattage limit on my psu once i add in the second gpu. I am willing to upgrade to the newer 970s since i'd prefer to not upgrade my psu. Any advice is appreciated as well as options i haven't considered.

Thanks,

TheRealson

You will not even hit close to 750W. You can see in Linus' 4k build video that his dual 780Ti hit 625 in synthetic stress tests so you are fine

Wattage

You don't have to worry, it doesn't suck up that much power.

Hangon.. so you'd rather buy two 350$ cards than spend maybe 150$ on a new psu?

@SuperPug I have one 780 already so if i needed a new PSU i'd have to buy a new PSU plus the other GPU. If i went the new 970 route i'd have more than enough overhead on my PSU to run SLI without having to upgrade my PSU.

Yeah but a PSU is much cheaper than a GPU

Yes i understand that but I want more graphics power and if i needed a new PSU it would be almost as expensive to just upgrade to the new 970s without having to upgrade the PSU. If i needed a bigger PSU id have to buy that along with the second 780.

Dual 970 is more expensive than 1 780 and 1 psu
