GTX 970 Bottleneck?

Go to solution Solved by Profquast,

Hello

Just wanted a second opinion before I go and buy a GTX 970.

Will my AMD A8 7600 (3.8Ghz Turbo) bottleneck a GTX 970?

My motherboard is FM2+ so if I need to upgrade my CPU too what would ensure the 970 is not limited in performance.

I run 1080p 60Hz through VGA.

Thanks  :)

It will depend on the game, but in most games it will. Particularly your minimal framerates will be significantly lower than with intel. Don't buy a 8350, at this point it really is old technology and you can have an i5 4460 which is more powerful in games for the same price. Additional bonuses are less power and therefore heat and noise and newer motherboards with more modern features.

Yes it will bottleneck your 970 for sure. If you want to get a cpu that won't bottleneck it get a i5 a 4690k would be ideal. Also why you use vga they are horrible

Yes, definitely a bottleneck, I would generally recommend a 4690k, but if your low on the moonay you could go for a 8350

An 8350 bottlenecks the 970, get an I5-4690k

Yes, it will bottleneck the 970. You would need to move over to an 8350 or 4670K(preferably 4670K).

@Suika

I need you

Edit: Anyway, suika had a pretty big bottleneck on her 780 and 8350 so it will definitely bottleneck the 970

I tried pairing a A8-6600K and it worked out not that bad. The bottleneck only kicks in if you play CPU intensive games then kick it up to Ultra/Very High.

It will still bottleneck in any game that need fast single thread performance it will be very noticeable

I would go 8350 its cheaper and doesn't make a notable difference unless your playing a heavy cpu game I mean if you go 8350 with a 970 you will be fine but if there is room in the budget I would personally go intel 4690K because it has better single core performance

Just out of interest Fate, whats wrong with the V300 SSD's? I was actually looking at them as an upgrade :D

They changed the flash and now it performs horribly and is unreliable.

The consistent reads/writes are similar to a high end hard drive (170/80).

Yea it does unfortunately, and even when it doesn't you'll get some nasty lows if you run around the 60FPS mark.

I upgraded from an 8350 to an i7-4790k and did see an improvement in lows and CPU dependent areas.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.
