Right now I have a sapphire r9 290 tri-x.. thinking of changing to maybe a 980 what do you guys think? or go for a 295x2?

I was thinking about that my only concern is that right now im switching to a h440 idk if it would run too hot or not

What res are you going to be playing at? For 1080p there is no reason to upgrade from a R9 290X.

For 1440/4k/3-monitors-gaming, Another R9 290 should be more than enough, they go cheap for like $200.

not really, the tri-x cooler is very good

H440 is build for silence and watercooling in mind

 

you can look at the Air 540

They have a TDP difference of less than 100W (closer to it after OC). Not going to matter in a case change to a H440.

There are tons of benchmarks around, it's a pretty good scaling.

The R9 290 Tri-X is $280 in Newegg, it also has a $20 MiR if you want to do it. There are cheaper but different cards on the same system look ugly lol.
