So, I got my 64GB OnePlus One last Saturday (I've been so enamored by it and its software that I haven't touched my iPad or LTT since I got it). It's really great, and I can't see myself switching back to iOS. I'm so glad I can do actual work with this thing! I'll be putting both my iPad and iPhone on Swappa either today or tomorrow. But I have a few questions:

1) Should I enable ART? It should be more widely supported now, since 5.0 is in the wild, but I'm still unsure.

2) What NFC tags do you recommend? I was looking at WhizTags, but they only store 137 bytes. Is that enough for some simple commands (like if I tap one on my bedside, it turns off Wi-Fi and LTE, turns the brightness down and launches Kindle)?

3) Any apps you recommend? I already have the basics like Nova Launcher, Google Messenger, Facebook, Minimal UI and the like.

4) Should I root? How hard is it, what do I need to do it and what do you recommend rooting for?

You should only root if you find things you want on your phone that require rooting.  I rooted my Galaxy S2 a few months after buying it in 2012, and rooted by Nexus 4 three days after buying it, but I have yet to root my OnePlus One because it just works and does what I need it to do.

As for apps, see if Pushbullet or AirDroid take your fancy.  Also, you can assign three apps to when you swipe up from the on-screen home button.  I have assigned AppDialer as one of them which makes switching to other apps very easy.

AMD FX-6300 @ 4.5ghz (1.332v) | Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO | Asus M5A97 R2.0 | Kingston HyperX 16GB @ 1600mhz | MSI Radeon R9 290 Twin Frozr

1) ART is supported but on kitkat you can still run into issues due to the fact that it isn't the finalized version of ART that is in lollipop

Ah, then I'll just wait for 5.0, it's only like a month away at the most.

3) SD maid

4) pretty darn easy to root, took me 2 minutes to do.

Thanks!

I was looking at Xposed for XMultiWindow and XHoloFloatingWindow, but apparently Xposed and 5.0 are incompatible? Material Design trumps Xposed IMO, so I won't root if this is true.

Thanks, already use Pushbullet, but I'll check out the others.

1. I tried out ART on my One Plus One and the power button stopped working. Switched back to DALVIK and it worked again. Wait until Lollipop is released (which is soon this month btw)

3. Pushbullet!!! It lets you get all of your notifications on your laptop or computer! Also, download the Amazon app store. They were giving away $200 worth of apps, not sure if that is still happening,,, BUT, you can download Crossy Road, which is really fun and only on iOS and the Amazon App Store. Get Device Manager, it tracks your phone wherever it goes. Yahoo weather is pretty cool. That's all I can think of :) Hope you enjoy your new OPO!
