Hi Guys! Ive been trying to over clock my intel g3258 paired with a gigabyte z97m-ds3h mobo. I have tried both the manual and the auto oc but i just cant get it to overclock.

Problems with manual overclocking is even with a very light overclock of 4.0ghz and tried a range of voltages from 1.2-1.3, changed the uncore ratio to 40, disabled the turboboost and left others at auto, i just cant cant get a stable overclock. If i play a game or use intel burn test it crashes immediately. When i try 4.4ghz, wont even boot and i have to reset everythinv to default.

If i use the auto oc feature in gigabyte's easytune utility, i have tried the all the presets but cabt get a stable oc. Tried the autotune, it overclocks it to 4.0ghz but after reboot it wont retain the settings even if i check the box which says to retain settings after reboot.

My bios is updated and its also liquid cooled with seidon 120m so temp is not an issue here.

Please give me any suggestions on what i could possibly do. I would appreciate your help

Maybe i have to. I'll ask the retailer if they do replacements. This really sucks

Why would you return it? In overclocking nothing is guaranteed so they have absolutely NO REASON to give you a replacement

If you're just using it for like web browsing and general computer stuff, you don't really need one. However, if your whole build was centered on getting that CPU as high as possible in performance, or you are gaming, get a new one.

3.8-3.9GHz isn't that bad for most games, and it's really not worth spending another $70 on a G3258 when even that won't be guaranteed to overclock and you're essentially spending $140 on a dual core chip. You should probably just keep it until you can afford something like a 4690k.

RIP in pepperonis m8s

I took this cpu because i need the extra boost on the frequency to be able to run my flight simulator smoothly because my previous pc just cant handle it. it could reasonably run it now but not as i expect it. when i get it to overclock to 4.0ghz everything runs smoothly but then it crashes because it is not stable. so saaaaad. and i also play dota 2, bf4, need for speed rivals

good point but im just so frustrated right now, after countless rebooting and resetting everything i just want to buy a new one and hope it overclocks well

Just got that CPU as well, for me I can't seem to get a stable overclock over 4.5GHz, but I have the voltage turned up to 1.34v and I still get max temps that are lower than 80C on a Cooler Master Vortex cooler. I'm sure with your cooler you could easily get 1.35-1.37v and still have decent temperatures.

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

Increase VRIN to 1.9V

Leave Uncore Ratio to 32 for the time being.

My G3258+Gigabyte mobo has the same problem: It can't reach 3.9GHz even with 1.3Vcore if I don't micro manage VRIN and RING voltage.

Thanks for your replies, i have already managed to overclock my cpu to 4.4ghz at 1.32v and its very stable now and also had changes to vrin, ring voltage and uncore ratio.  I did it with the help of this guide, http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.overclock.net%2Ft%2F1490835%2Fthe-gigabyte-z97x-overclocking-guide&h=iAQHN7rQ3. It has the gigabyte uefi bios interface so its a lot easier for me since i also have a gigabyte mobo. I hope you would also get same or better results, Happy overclocking :)
