Hey guys,

I built a PC about 6 months ago and I'm really tempted to upgrade it in some way, but, I have no idea what to upgrade in it. So I thought you guys could help me. I'm a n00b when it comes to this stuff so please don't kill me. It's not that I just got into pc gaming, No, I've been a PC gamer ever since I was 6 except this PC was the first one I built myself and am not really familiar with how things go when it comes to how often someone should upgrade their system. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

My current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ComradeCat/saved/m7fD4D

Thanks in advance

My plan is every two years, though I may do a GPU upgrade more often than that. Depends on how things are going.

you could upgrade the dual 760's to a single 970 and probably get better performance. otherwise there's not much else you could drastically improve without wasting money. I would wait until next summer before doing anything though - your PC is super for the time being.

Pretty much keep it going strong until you feel the need to upgrade it. ;) I just upgraded from a Radeon HD 5570 actually. That thing had a long and glorious journey, and here it now sits next to me in retirement.

But as I like to say, you can never have enough power! So upgrade whenever you feel the need to without wasting money.

Also, welcome to the LTT forum. :)

If you're already feeling the itch to upgrade, you've been bit by the bug real bad. That system of yours is absolutely fine, and should be for some time yet.

Unless you game on 3 screens, or a 4K monitor, even upgrading to a 970 wouldn't net you much performance that would actually change your gameplay experience.

Save your money for now.

If you really must upgrade something, get a larger SSD so you can install your games right on it.

But as for how often to upgrade? I generally replace my CPU/Motherboard/Ram every 3 - 5 years. My current build will easily last 5.

Video cards tend to be an annual upgrade for me. I usually buy one mid grade card then 8 - 10 months later buy a second one for SLI. I usually keep those for 12 - 14 months then replace them with something new.

Power supply, Case, Hard drives - those will last a long time. No need to replace them unless there's a problem.

Core i7-2600k @ 4.65Ghz - Asus Maximus IV Gene Z - 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance LP Cerilian Blue - Samsung EVO 840 250GB - Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB - 2x EVGA Geforce GTX 760 SC - Corsair AX850, custom sleaved and length - Silverstone Sugo heavily modified - Full loop with EK blocks and 360 rad, frozenq res.
