Does crossfire have any problems? I've heard its not very good.

It is more prone to problems than a single GPU.  However it is not accident prone.

you will be stuck with one GPU power

 

older games like Crysis 3 or Metro Last Light will run your GPU nicely

AMD drivers will support HD7xxx series and R7 & R9 series GPUs

I would get a 970 and see what happens when the new AMD cards come out if you are searching for performance. A single 970 is very good for gaming. Before one of my monitors exploded (power supply caught fire), I was gaming triple 1080p on a single overclocked 970 on medium settings BF4, with very few dips into the 40s during intense moments. most of the time I had 60-80 fps.
