Desperately need a mic. But no money lol. But I do have two apple earpods. I was wondering if it was possible to connect one earpod to the earphone jack and the other one to the microphone jack to make it act as a mic. Only reason I'm asking this is because the other earpod is somewhere located in the house and I don't wanna look for something that won't work lol. Is it possible?

Pretty sure it does (A friend of mine said I should have done that when I didn't have a mic)

But there are also cheap things that split it into audio and mic (so from only 'green 3.5 mm' to 'green and pink 3.5 mm)

You'll need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Smartphone-Headset-PC-Adapter-01-PH35-PC35/dp/B008OB2NHA/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1419811087&sr=8-5

Interesting note, the one I use for my mic only ever works off my sound blaster.

Perhaps because the female jack of the microphone is originally meant to be TS instead of TRS?

Don't think so, just the inline from my MOE's. Works off my tablet, works off my Sound Blaster, but not off onboard. Forces me to keep the silly thing plugged in.
