Can a single GTX 970 run a dual monitor? with smooth performance?

i'm planning to go with a dual monitor setup. maybe a two 1440p monitor or two 1080p or maybe a 1080p+1440p depending on my budget.

will you game on two monitors? or just game on one and the other monitor is used for something else.

I hope you don't plan on gaming with two monitors. If so, that's a horrible idea.

If you're just running monitors independently/ spanned, they will run with no problem, you could even power two 4K monitors with a 970.

Second monitor has no real performance hit, unless you want to play on two monitors which is stupid.

Oh yeah i forgot to be specific on my question. sorry for not giving out the details that i wanted. well i really don't plan on gaming with two monitors maybe the 2nd monitor would be just for maybe bacground apps like facebook or somethign or maybe ill be using the 2nd monitor for the map in dota 2 something like that.

That is perfectly fine to run 2 monitors the way you want to as long as you just game on one of them.

 

Please don't buy a 4K display as your gaming monitor though, you'll be disappointed a GTX970 can't provide the necessary GPU computing power. 1440p is as good as it gets with a single card, if you are willing to sacrifice some details.
