1440p IPS vs 4K+G-Sync

Go to solution Solved by othertomperson,
You'll want 4K over 1440, with or without G-Sync or IPS. And if you get 4K you'll want another GTX 980 because one won't cut it at the highest preset. Two will be plenty though.

Well, i took i7 5820K for video editing... so... does TN really matter if u start editing gaming captured videos...

No. You'd want an IPS when you're in professional web design or photowork when you need what you're creating to be absolutely accurate since it's going to be displayed on a range of devices and any adjustment you make to be what you're actually creating.

I'd personally go with the 1440p Ips due to it scaling better with windows than 4k, but if you only going to be using your computer for gaming i would go ahead with 4k it is amazing in games.

That's not a real issue.

Hello guys,

I have been thinking over and over this question about what panel should I get...and I has been confusing thought...

Most people who have used IPS panels say it's just hard to go back to TN, same as the gamers who've been using G-Sync and the gamers who play on 144Hz @ 120-144FPS at 1080p...

I know it's mostly personal preference, but what is actually 'Next Generation' in terms of quality and resolution?

I am using only 1 GTX 980 G1 Gaming. i7 5820K and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

What do you think looks better and works out better for gaming?

An IPS 1440P panel or a TN 4K with G-Sync?

4K 120hz g-sync coming from 1080p is comparable to youtube videos at 720p 60fps coming from 480p 30fps

I am sorry bro but a 120Hz 4K G-Sync monitor does not exist on the market... can you rephrase what you just said?

Em well... there is another issue - First 2 GTX 980s will have a bottleneck with 4GB Vram. And second my PSU is just 750W and I do not want to put any higher of that.

That was my choice at first, but from the looks of it, I will have to stay with 1 GTX 980 for 1 year...meaning that games l like Crysis 3, Far Cry 4 or ACU,  I will play at 1440p... Is it worth it in that case?

If you ever decide to do any video editing, then you could always invest in a colorimeter such as the ColorMunki or Datacolor's Spyder4Express

4K at 120Hz no AA vs 1080p at 120Hz no AA.

DSR with NVIDIA graphics cards aren't a direct comparison, but can definitely give you a feel for 4K.

A 980's 4GB vram only makes sense if you're using 4K equivalent resolutions. It won't bottleneck. My record is 3GB at 4K. And 750W is enough for two 980s. Last test I did with a power meter at the wall I barely broke 500W while benchmarking.

Well then Gigabyte is wrong about recommending 800W for 2 SLI of their GTX 980s...

And for the 4K equivalent, you mean 4K textures right? I wonder why lots of people tell me that BF4 caps 4GB on 4K with 2 GPUs...

750W, 800W... there's really not much difference. I'm not saying I recommend trying this on a 500W PSU, I'm saying that's the maximum I've measured my system draw from the wall while benchmarking.

By 4K equivalent, I mean 4K or an equivalent multi-monitor setup that equates to the same number of pixels. So three or four 1080p monitors, or surround with 1440p monitors (will be more demanding than 4K)

I've heard that Shadow of Mordor needs more vram than exists on any GPU to run at the highest preset at 4K, but generally speaking you're good with 4GB.

That's not going to be the case next year... and I hope they fix the damn ACU by next summer...

Get the ROG Swift and wait for 4k to become more mainstream.

I already saw the bad pixel inversion... no ty
