ECC memory purpose

Go to solution Solved by Sintezza,

ECC support on xeon E3 cpu´s is abit pointless.

Because normal Z/H/Q series boards dont support ECC.

You have to buy a more expensive C-series chipset board, to have ECC memory support.

im making a gaming/editing rig and im buying a intel xeon 1246-v3 and i seen that all Xeons support ECC memory.

how much is ECC , what is it used for and why should i get it / not get it . thanks

Error Code Correcting, unless you are running a mission critical PC there is no point mate, stick with regular RAM because it is cheaper and perfectly fine.

It's used for servers or editing rigs. ECC stands for Error Correcting Code - it's used to remove errors in RAM when they pop up. NVIDIA's professional cards also include ECC memory.
