Correct camera settings for shooting video of a cell phone screen.

Hello,

I'm looking for advice on how to effectively shoot a video of a cell phone screen with a DSLR or similar camera.

I'm trying to shoot some tutorial videos for customers of mine where I detail certain OS tips and tricks etc. However, when I try to shoot the video, the auto exposure seems to black out the background and blow out the screen.

What can I do to ensure that the background stays illuminated but you can also clearly see what is on the screen? I always see people shooting tech reviews on YouTube and they don't seem to have any problems with this. Do I just need brighter lighting in the room?

I will be shooting these videos with either a Canon T5i or Sony rx100m3. also which camera do you think would be best to use?

Any help would be much appreciated.
